Jim Glickenhaus declined the Oppositelock membership I offered. I’m fine. I’m fine.

Last month Randy Graves contacted me to let me know he and Scott Harvey were inducted into the Mopar Hall of Fame. I replied and asked if he’d like to join Oppo. Link
No reply...yet. I blame Kinja.

It’s your fault for thinking someone as cool as Jim Glic kenhaus would want to hang with us weirdos.

Back in the mid-2000's, some guy started posting on a car forum
about an Enzo-based custom that he commissioned from Pininfarina. I figured this was bullshit, but it was entertaining bullshit and
our leadership didn’t perm-ban him so I kept reading.
The finished product rolled out a year-or-so later. It was the P4/5 and yes, it was Jim Glickenhaus. He even answered one of my wise- ass questions that I can’t be bothered to find.

He’s not cool then.
It’s not like he’s built or raced custom Ferrari’s or anything.

Reminds me. Isn’t there a Little article about the former Oppo writer who was always talking big about all the exotics he owned?

Can’t tell if you’re thinking of SR20 or BTU. BTU is for real. SR20 is...decidedly not.

I read the exchange you had with a certain Op this morning. I think he makes a good point that if your attention is drawn to the exchange by one who is not a participant, then this seems more like policing than moderating. At the same time, at face value, his reply reads rather stridently, though he does not actually label anyone or call them any names.
Still, I thought your response was measured and civil, though I’d have probably not chosen that battle. Minimal moderating is best moderating. If the recipient of the reply had been the one to reach out to you, then that would be a different matter.
I’m a guy who has been policed by moderators, so it’s a sensitive topic.
That’s my $0.02, unsolicited.
Cheers.

That is a limitation of our flagging system - it does not tell us who flagged the comment, so we are left to assume. When I see a flagged comment I assume the author of the post has done so. There is an opportunity for bad actors to flag comments/conversations they are no a party to, but if the comment stands by it s own there’s not harm done. Typically my moderation is dropping a “stop being a dick” line to the person that was flagged. I admit my last warning response to OP was overzealous, but after seeing multiple flags for their comments it grew old . A more measured response is required, and I don’t expect to have the same issue again.
Also you’re right - the conversation went nowhere. They’re not getting banned because they contribute so much to this place (in content and needed viewpoints that aren’t commonly expressed), but sometimes direction is needed from us.

Thanks for replying. I really love this space and I was trying to be helpful. They are a valuable member here; I agree with you. You might also consider some expression other than “being a d**k.” I mean, we
get what it means, but it’s also
vague
. Something like, “Dude: you seem to be coming in kind of hot.” Or, “Can you cool your jets a little?” You might also try reaching out to
the thread originator on an old post, as I’ve done here with you, and asking them if they are okay with the responses. You could learn whether
they were
one throwing the flag, particularly if the person involved is a beloved. You could also reach out to that other person the same way and say, “Hey: that other thread, you seem a little hot. Reads a little rough.” That takes pressure off the moment. Ways to get the job done, build rapport, keep the place Excellent and More.

That might need to be the first step in moderating flagged comments then - reach out to the thread author and ask if they flagged any comments. Thanks for the insight.
